  • Pre-Travel Checklist: Double-check all your travel documents, ensure you have the necessary documents and reconfirm your travel.
  • Accommodation Booking: Have a confirmed booking for accommodation. You may be asked to provide proof of this at immigration. (I WILL PROVIDE THE CONFIRMATION)
  • Proof of Funds: You might need to show proof that you have sufficient funds to cover your stay in Portugal.
  • Return Ticket: Be prepared to show a return or onward travel ticket to prove your intent to leave Portugal at the end of your visit.
  • Currency: The Euro (€) is the currency. Credit cards are widely accepted, but having some cash for small purchases and markets is useful.
  • Electricity: The standard voltage is 230V, and the plug type is C or F. Travelers may need an adapter for their devices. (PURCHASE FROM AMAZON)
  • Safety: Lisbon is generally safe, but travelers should be aware of pickpockets, especially in crowded areas and on public transportation. Keep valuables secure and be cautious in tourist-heavy spots.
  • Health: Carry any necessary medications and have a basic first-aid kit. Tap water is safe to drink, but bottled water is widely available.
  • Dining Etiquette: When dining out, it's customary to wait to be seated. Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory; rounding up the bill or leaving 5-10% is standard.
  • Dress Code: Lisbon is relatively casual, but locals tend to dress neatly. When visiting religious sites, dress modestly, covering shoulders and knees.

CANCELLATION POLICY

As part of the booking process, Grateful Wanderer Travel, LLC (GWT) wants to bring to your attention our cancellation policy. Please be advised that the deposits and payments made for your travel arrangements are non-refundable and non transferable. This means that in the event of cancellation, deposits, and payments will not be eligible for a refund or transfer to another traveler. 


We understand that unexpected situations may arise, leading to changes in your travel plans. To safeguard your investment, we require travel insurance. Travel insurance provides coverage for various situations, such as trip cancellations, trip interruptions, and medical emergencies, offering you peace of mind in case of unforeseen circumstances.

EARLY ARRIVALS AND LATE DEPARTURE NOTICE

If you plan to arrive before the official start of the group trip or depart after its conclusion, please be advised that you will be 100% responsible for your hotel accommodations and airport transportation during these extended periods. Our group rates and transportation arrangements are specifically tailored to the official trip dates, and any additional nights or arrangements fall outside the scope of our group booking.

NO WAIT POLICY

 Group Departure Times Will Be Honored

All group activities, excursions, and transfers will depart promptly at the scheduled time. We kindly ask that you arrive 10–15 minutes early to each meeting point to ensure a smooth and timely departure.


We Will Not Delay for Late Arrivals

To maintain the integrity of the itinerary and respect everyone’s time, we will not wait for individuals who arrive late. If you miss a departure due to tardiness, you will be responsible for your own transportation to the next scheduled location at your own expense.


Communication Is Key

If you're experiencing an emergency or delay, please notify your Trip Host immediately via WhatsApp or the designated contact method. While we cannot delay departures, we will do our best to support you in catching up with the group.


Travel Responsibly

Please manage your time wisely and treat scheduled times as firm commitments. Being on time not only ensures you enjoy the full experience it also shows respect for your fellow travelers and the communities we visit.

Day 1: Arrival and Introduction to Lisbon

Arriving in Lisbon is the beginning of an exciting adventure filled with rich culture, stunning architecture, and delectable cuisine. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you navigate your arrival and check-in process in Lisbon smoothly.

Arrival at Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS)

Humberto Delgado Airport, also known as Lisbon Airport, is the main international gateway to Portugal’s capital. The airport is well-connected to various global destinations and is located just 7 kilometers (about 4.3 miles) from the city center.

Before Your Arrival
  • Documentation: Ensure you have all necessary travel documents, including your passport, visa (if required), and any other pertinent travel documents.
  • Customs and Immigration: Familiarize yourself with Portugal’s customs regulations to avoid any unexpected issues. Non-EU travelers should be prepared to declare items and may need to show proof of onward travel and accommodation.
Upon Arrival
  1. Disembarkation: After your flight lands, follow the signs to immigration and passport control.
  2. Immigration: Present your passport and any required documents to the immigration officers. US citizens will use the “All Passports” lanes.
  3. Baggage Claim: After clearing immigration, proceed to the baggage claim area to collect your luggage. Check the information screens to find the correct carousel for your flight.
  4. Customs: If you have items to declare, proceed to the “Goods to Declare” lane. Otherwise, proceed through the “Nothing to Declare” lane.
  5. Local Currency: Withdrawing local currency from an ATM provides the best exchange rate. (PLEASE NOTIFY YOUR BANK OF YOUR TRAVEL PLANS)
  6. Airport Transportation: You will be greeted the driver in the arrival area. They will be holding a 'Grateful Wanderer" sign.

We are headed to Carcavelos,  once there you’ll find golden sands, clear waters, and a laid-back coastal vibe.


Bring your swimsuit, sunscreen, a beach towel, and a good book—or simply soak in the sun and let the sound of the waves do the rest. Local beach cafés offer delicious seafood, refreshing sangria, and unbeatable ocean views.


Don't forget comfortable sandals, water shoes or flip-flops.

While the day is yours to enjoy at your leisure, we also understand that practicalities must be attended to. Feel free to use this time to pack your belongings and prepare for your journey home, ensuring a smooth and stress-free departure.

Farewell to Lisbon & Flight back home

At Grateful Wanderer, we understand that travel is a transformative experience that has the power to broaden horizons, foster personal growth, and create lasting memories.  Though you say "até mais" to Portugal, know that you can return to the city whenever your heart desires. Until we meet again, cherish the joy and wonder that Lisbon has bestowed upon you. Bon voyage and safe travels back home! 


Flight Check-In (for Departure):

  • For your departure flight, it is recommended to check in online before arriving at the airport, if possible. Most airlines allow online check-in 24 hours prior to the flight's departure time.
  • If you were unable to check-in online, proceed to the airline's check-in counters at the airport. Have your passport and booking reference or e-ticket ready.
  • After check-in, proceed to the designated security and immigration areas.

Security and Boarding:

  • At the security checkpoint, place your carry-on items on the conveyor belt for screening. Follow the security officer's instructions and proceed to the boarding gates.
  • Once at the boarding gate, listen for announcements regarding boarding procedures. Present your boarding pass and passport for verification before boarding the aircraft.

Please note that check-in and boarding times may vary depending on the airline and airport regulations. It is advisable to arrive at the airport well in advance to allow sufficient time for all processes, especially during busy travel periods.
